Shaun Hopper, Percussive Guitar Phenomenon – A must see!

January 23, 2016 @ 7:45 pm - 9:15 pm

Hosted by Brian Colón on the occasion of his birthday, this event is a fundraiser for SCAS, featuring percussive guitar phenomenon Shaun Hopper.   Listen here as Shaun explain his musical style! Shaun Hopper invites you to come and experience his music at the Eldorado Hotel and Spa.

Acoustic “fingerstyle” guitar player/wizard Shaun Hopper is a true southern gentleman whose humility stands in sharp contrast to the prodigious talents he unveils on stage. Merging complex melody, harmony and bass lines with a one-of-a-kind percussive technique, he mesmerizes everyone within earshot. His original compositions and covers are infused with a cutting edge resonance found only in the new breed of virtuosos, including players like Adam Rafferty, Don Ross and Andy McKee, and yet he remains loyal to his roots. His overall approach to guitar remains inspired by the legends; Andre Segovia, Tommy Emmanuel, Michael Hedges, George Benson, Martin Taylor, Leo Kottke and Chet Atkins. The result is a “signature style” which blends musical genres, including; Alternative, Folk, Classical, Celtic, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues and Percussive-New Age.

Shaun’s stagecraft is impressive. Weaving in humorous tales from small town Georgia along with an glimpse into his “backwoods” upbringing, he stirs his audience with humor and introspection. Moving through his repertoire, Shaun takes his audience on a global tour from Celtic Imagery and Classical Medley to Soulful Ballads, Jazzy Improvs and Spanish compositions, which he counters with a cliff hanging Nashville “hot licks session”, gutsy original or 70’s pop song.

The Museum of Spanish Colonial Art collects, preserves, and exhibits the Spanish colonial art of New Mexico and beyond, and educates the public about its related cultures and living traditions. Since the 1600s, Spanish colonial arts and crafts have been an important part of village life in New Mexico and Southern Colorado; however, by the early 1900s, the practice of these traditional arts was declining. In 1925, the Spanish Colonial Arts Society was founded in Santa Fe to encourage and promote Spanish colonial arts and crafts and to inform and educate the public about traditional art forms, designs and techniques. Since then, the Spanish Colonial Arts Society has played a major role in developing markets for the artists, increasing public awareness, preserving Spanish colonial art, and emphasizing the importance of continuing community traditions.
