Paul Pletka: Converging Faiths in the New World Members Opening
April 12 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Paul Pletka: Converging Faiths in the New World, brings together paintings that focus on Christian saints and depictions of indigenous gods of North and South America. The exhibit includes more than a dozen of Pletka’s highly detailed paintings—some of which stretch wider than 10 feet—items from his personal collection of retablos, bultos, and Mexican masks, as well as artifacts from the museum’s collection, including a historic death cart. The exhibit focuses exclusively on his art about Mexico and the Southwest. Borrowed from private collectors for this occasion, the works in the exhibit demonstrate how people of different cultures found their way to accepting one another while holding fast to their roots.
